Port Vincent (population 465),
is situated on the East coast of Yorke Peninsula, some 194km from
Adelaide. The coast road from Port Wakefield is picturesque and passes
through Ardrossan, before reaching the Port Vincent turn-off.
Come and visit Port Vincent for our beach, our bay, our caravan
park, our walking trails, our fishing or simply to get away from it
all. |
|
 |
|
The Narangga Aborigines inhabited the area prior to white
settlement and the town, laid out by Adelaide solicitor L.M.
Cullen in 1877, was originally known as Surveyor's Point.

Port Vincent has a sizable flotilla of boats, and
facilities for yachts. A gala day is held each year in January and the
bay is a perfect spot for fishing, snorkelling, and all kinds of other
aquatic activities. |
 |
The Port Vincent Foreshore walking trail has won a
number of awards and has spectacular views of the bay and
surrounding area. Visit the Pioneer well, follow the trail around the
bay to the cliffs, take a look at the amazing rocks dragged from
Victor Harbour by a passing glacier! |
 |
The foreshore area is an absolute delight
for holiday makers with a beautiful clean beach, boat ramp, jetty, BBQ
area, beach shelter and an extensive children's playground. |
 |
This monument on the foreshore features the SS Juno,
one of the many ships that used to visit Port Vincent for shipments of
wheat earlier this century. |
 |
The jetty is the perfect place for fishing, for both
young and old. To keep things civilised, there's a decent toilet
block, grassed area,
lights, safety rail and fish measuring chart- so there's no excuse for
'accidentally' taking an undersize fish! |
 |
A genteel stroll around the town is just the thing for
a lazy afternoon as Port Vincent
boasts some beautifully restored private residences and public
buildings. |
